Volunteer Opportunities

Tutors/Academic Support - Youth

Do you love to read to children or have them read to you or play math games?  These are two important parts of helping children to succeed in school.  We need responsible teens and adults who would like to spend at least an hour or two per week with students from grade 3 through 8.

Tutors/Academic Support - Adults

Do you enjoy teaching and helping others?  Consider working with an adult a few hours per week to help them improve their reading and literacy skills or maybe even get their GED.  Many adults in our community struggle to help their children with homework or read medical instructions for themselves and their children.  The River Coalition partners with Literacy Volunteers of Bangor to train tutors and partner them with adults who need and want their help.

General Office Duties

Can you copy, collate, stuff envelopes, stick labels???  Then we need you!!  Throughout the year we have projects and tasks which take our time away from providing programs.  We would love your help, even if you only have 1 hour a week.

3/20/08 - we are currently looking for someone to put together our Welcome to Kindergarten bags.  Do you have a little time before April vacation that you could spare to help us??  Give us a call!

These are only the volunteer opportunities that we know of.  There are many ways that young people and adults can use their passions and interests to serve their community.  If you have any idea you would like to explore, please feel free to contact us!

Many of our programs take place during the school year (September to June).  However, we do have a need for volunteers throughout the year for various events and activities.

For more information on these opportunities, please contact the River Coalition at 827-8744 and speak to the contact person listed.
